WHAT TO EXPECT

Hairprint works on brown and black hair. Blonde and red hair contains an additional pigment (pheomelanin) that we do not supply. Hairprint comes in a kit. It is comprised of eight food grade ingredients and can be applied by you at home, with the help of a friend, or by a stylist in a salon. In the kit, you receive a hair cleanser, the three restoring treatments, instructions, gloves, and a brush. For people with short to medium length hair, home application is easily done. For long and thick hair, you may want someone to help you or have it applied at a salon.

The ideal client is one who is just beginning to go gray and has never used any coloring products on their hair.  Having said that we have many clients that are 50% or more gray, been dying their hair for over a decade and are now transitioning to Hairprint with wonderful results.

Many clients get amazing results on the first go, others need more time. We suggest you commit to 4 treatments with Hairprint before deciding this is or isn’t for you.  Our experience shows that Hairprint results improve dramatically over time, and people really begin to appreciate the benefits of Hairprint after 4 treatments or more  

Also hair that has been chemically treated or gray or white for a long time sometimes requires more time before you really see the great results.

Hairprint will make hair a bit darker than your original color for a day or two but lightens after washing.

 

HOW TO APPLY

Before you start please take a look at our Residue-free Hair page. You may need to follow certain waiting periods or instructions to ensure you get the best chance of coverage.

Because Hairprint is so natural and works with your individual hair print, there is more than one way to apply Hairprint.

Please do take a look at the different application options and don't be afraid to experiment. 

Whichever set of instructions you choose, please note the following:

  1. TWO TO THREE DAYS BEFORE APPLYING HAIRPRINT DISCONTINUE USE OF ALL HAIR CARE PRODUCTS, ESPECIALLY OILS AND CONDITIONERS. 
    You may continue to use the Hairprint Shampoos and Conditioner options in any combination you like from the line of: Amla, Fermented Bamboo, and Bio-active Kelp options, as they are formulated to complement Hairprint Color Restorer. 
  2. If you have determined that you have any buildup of product or hard water on your hair, begin your Hairprint treatment with our Chelating Shampoo (which acts as clarifying shampoo and chelator or mineral/oxidizer remover in one).  This shampoo is for Pre-Hairprint only. It is not meant as a substitute for regular use shampoos.  
  3. On the day of the Hairprint application, using the Prepare properly is the key to achieving a great overall color result. It expands the cortex and opens the cuticles of the hair, which then allows Hairprint to access it fully. Wash your hair with warm to hot water. Work the contents of the Prepare packet into your hair, paying attention to the gray areas.  Leave the Prepare in your hair anywhere from 5 - 30 minutes.  The longer you leave the Prepare in, the better Hairprint works on non-porous or resistant hair. Essentially, the pH of the Prepare softens and opens up the cuticle. Some people put it on then go do a chore or watch their favorite 30 minute episode of television or Netflix. Leaving on 20-30 minutes, for resistant hair, can make all the difference. Rinse and towel dry your hair.
  4. The mixes are applied as follows: Restore Liquid+ Powder - (2 sets used for Steps/Mixes 1 & 2). Complete Liquid + Powder- (1 set- used for the final or last step/mix). Apply each liquid and powder, of the same name, within 6 minutes of mixing. You can accomplish this by pouring a workable amount on the hair and using your gloved hands to work it in. Using gloved hands, be sure to work each mix down and in to your hair like you would with a conditioner. If it helps you can use the brush to focus first on areas you want covered the most, such as the hairline, roots and persistent gray areas but make sure these areas are throughly saturated, before moving on to the longer hair. For large sections working it in with your hands speeds up the process.

 

Classic Instructions (for short or fine non-abundant hair)

These are the original instructions we started with in 2016.  They are ideal for people with fine and/or short hair.

  • Virgin hair that is less than 50% gray
  • 6-10” of hair
  • Thin or fine hair
  • Applying on roots only that are under 50% gray


Apply Prepare to damp hair. Leave on for anywhere from 5 minutes -30 minutes. RINSE

Step 1: With gloves on, pour liquid and powder Restore into a non-aluminum bowl. Stir powder softly in to the liquid with the brush. The mixture will swell and expand. When the mixture is red, maroon, or even black (after about 10 seconds), begin to apply to your hair using the brush as a spatula to pour workable amounts on to your hair. Using your gloved hands apply in to the hair like you would a conditioner. Begin with the gray areas first, saturating the hairline, roots, and temples (as these are typically the hardest to cover areas). Pour on more mix, using your gloved hands, to work down and through the middle sections around the crown of your head to the ends of your scalp on all sides. Finish applying any remaining mixture to longer more porous sections which do not need as much product. Set your timer for 15 minutes. When the time is up, RINSE

Step 2:  Using the second Restore liquid and powder repeat as in Step 1. Set your timer for 15 minutes. When the time is up, RINSE

Step 3: Mix Liquid and Powder Complete . This formula turns purple and does not expand like the first two steps. It may also feel warm in the bowl and on your scalp. Work in to and down the hair using gloved hands to apply like a conditioner. You may apply all over to help tone the hair and ensure there is no line of demarcation. Leave on for 15 minutes. RINSE with cooler lukewarm water.

After your Hairprint application you will want to infuse the hair with nourishing oils from our nutrient rich formulas. Complete the process with one of our daily use Conditioners (Amla, Bamboo, or Kelp). When conditioning, leave in the hair for at least 5-60 minutes. Most customers benefit from an hour, but you can also leave on for up to 3 hours to more deeply condition the hair. 

It takes 7-10 days for the Hairprint formula to stabilize in the hair. During this period it may look darker than your natural color. After this period ends, the hair will take on the tonal variations and highlights of your own natural color.

Single Kit Application (for longer more abundant hair)

These instructions are the same as the classic instructions with one less rinse (between Step 1 & 2).  We have received feedback from customers that the process of layering Mix 1 and 2 leaving both on for 30 minutes before rinsing is both stronger and more efficient.
They are ideal for 

  • Virgin hair that is less than 50% gray
  • Under 10” of hair
  • Thicker more abundant hair
  • Non-sensitive scalps

Step 2:  Remove excessive mixture on your hair: to do this place your gloved palm on your scalp and run your hand down the length of your scalp and hair squeezing out excess product in to your sink or tub. Now repeat Step 1 using the second Restore liquid and powder. Set your timer for 15 minutes. When the time is up, RINSE

Step 3: Mix Liquid and Powder Complete . This formula turns purple and does not expand like the first two steps. It may also feel warm in the bowl and on your scalp. Work in to and down the hair using gloved hands to apply like a conditioner. You may apply all over to help tone the hair and ensure there is no line of demarcation. Leave on for 15 minutes. RINSE with cooler lukewarm water.

Half Kit Application (for root touch ups, that are less than 30% gray) 

This is especially important for men or women with short hair, or for touching up your roots.

Keep in mind that this isn't advisable for hair or roots longer than 1-inch in length, and if this is your first application of Hairprint and/or have more than 30% grey hair, we recommend using the full kit for best results.

Hairprint cannot be measured by volume or ounces. We recommend a gram scale that measures 1/10th of a gram. We also recommend using the full Prepare packet when dividing the kit. We have additional packets for sale in our online store.

Instructions:

On all of the liquids - pour out 56-57 grams.

For Step 1: use 56-57 grams Restore Liquid and 16-17 grams of the Restore Powder.  

For Step 2- use your remaining contents of opened Restore Liquid and Powder. 

For Step 3, use 56-57 grams Complete Liquid and 5 grams of Complete Powder: 

After opening the Complete packet, be sure to seal the unused portion tightly by rolling up the sachet, putting a rubber band around it, and sealing it in an airtight ziplock bag. Store the product in a cool (15-20C) dry place. The powder may discolor slightly during storage, but it has no impact on the efficacy of the product.
